Airtel Launches AI-Powered Fraud Detection System to Protect 38 Crore Users from Online Scams

New Delhi — In a major digital safety upgrade, Bharti Airtel has unveiled an AI-powered Fraud Detection System to guard its 38 crore customers from rising online scams and phishing threats. The smart system detects and blocks malicious websites and links in real-time, offering seamless protection across web browsers, apps, emails, SMS, and social media platforms like WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook.

This new security feature, rolled out free of charge for all Airtel mobile and broadband users, operates automatically in the background—no downloads or configurations required. Whenever a user attempts to access a suspicious link, they are redirected to a warning page explaining the threat.

Airtel’s multi-layered security architecture leverages artificial intelligence, global threat repositories, and the company’s own database of malicious domains to scan traffic and identify emerging scam patterns.

“Our engineers have developed this tool to counter the rising number of digital scams defrauding unsuspecting users. We’re committed to making the internet a safer space for everyone,” said Gopal Vittal, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Bharti Airtel. He noted the tool performed with high accuracy during a six-month trial and would continue to evolve with new threat data.

As cybercrime grows more sophisticated—extending beyond OTP scams to phishing sites and social engineering—Airtel’s AI-driven approach sets a new standard in telecom cybersecurity, offering users peace of mind as they navigate the digital world.
