Sadguru Sahib Ji’s Discourse at Rakhbandhu: Call for Vigilance Against Inner Vices

Jammu: Sahib Bandgi’s revered Sadguru Sahib Ji addressed the congregation at Rakhbandhu today, delivering a deeply reflective discourse on the inner struggles that exist within the human body. Speaking to devotees, he cautioned that a person must remain constantly vigilant because the greatest enemies lie within oneself.

During the discourse, Sadguru Sahib Ji explained that the human body is often troubled by powerful inner vices such as lust, anger, greed, attachment, and ego. He warned that these forces can easily mislead a person if one becomes careless or unaware. Emphasizing awareness, he said that just as a doctor must first diagnose a disease before prescribing treatment, individuals must first recognize their own inner weaknesses before they can overcome them.

He further stated that anyone seeking true freedom must first examine the bonds that hold them back. According to him, desires such as lust and anger continuously disturb the mind and create obstacles in the spiritual path. Citing examples from ancient sages, Sadguru Sahib Ji narrated how even great ascetics struggled with these challenges.

Referring to the life of Sage Parashara, he said the sage once consumed only dry leaves in an attempt to prevent the production of semen and control bodily desires. Despite such extreme austerities and even giving up food, he eventually faced the influence of lust. The example, he said, demonstrates how powerful these inner tendencies can be.

Sadguru Sahib Ji urged devotees to remain cautious and avoid sinful acts. He explained that spiritual practice requires discipline and restraint, much like a patient who must follow a doctor’s instructions along with taking medicine. He reminded the congregation that the Sadguru provides the “medicine” of the true name, but its benefits can only be realized when followers strictly follow the prescribed rules and maintain vigilance in their conduct.

Addressing the nature of the soul, he said that the soul itself is pure, but disturbances arise from within the body and mind. According to him, a complete struggle between virtue and vice takes place within every individual. He emphasized that these negative tendencies do not possess power of their own; rather, they gain strength through human actions and thoughts.
To illustrate the importance of controlling the mind, he explained that a person can guide their thoughts by changing their perspective. If someone’s eyes fall on a woman and negative thoughts arise, the mind can be corrected by remembering that one also has a mother or sister at home.

Such awareness, he said, proves that the mind can indeed be controlled through conscious effort.
Sadguru Sahib Ji also referred to the story of Sage Shringi, who lived in the forest practicing intense penance after renouncing worldly pleasures. The sage had even stopped eating in an attempt to eliminate bodily desires. Yet, despite his austerity, he too fell into temptation after encountering a prostitute. Through this example, Sadguru Sahib Ji emphasized that even great sages faced difficulties in overcoming these forces on their own.

Concluding his discourse, he stated that ordinary individuals cannot easily overcome such powerful tendencies without spiritual guidance. He stressed that the true protection lies in the power of the Sadguru’s name, which helps devotees remain disciplined and progress on the spiritual path.
