Rahul Gandhi visits Poonch, meets families affected by Pakistan shelling

Rahul Gandhi visits Poonch, meets families hit by Pakistan shelling; urges children to stay strong, study hard, and make friends.

Poonch: Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and senior Congress MP Rahul Gandhi visited Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Saturday to meet families impacted by the recent wave of cross-border shelling from Pakistan. The region, particularly Poonch and Rajouri, has witnessed severe disruptions due to unprovoked firing that damaged homes and affected livelihoods.

During his visit, Gandhi interacted with local residents and children, encouraging them to stay strong despite the difficult circumstances. “You’ve experienced danger and fear, but don’t worry—things will return to normal soon. Focus on your studies, play hard, and make lots of friends in school,” he told the children, offering words of hope and resilience.

His visit was earlier confirmed by Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who welcomed the outreach from national leaders. “Yes, he will visit Poonch and meet the people to express his support. I also appreciate the TMC delegation for visiting the region. Their members traveled by road, listened to the people in Poonch and Rajouri, and will now head to Jammu. In such trying times, it’s reassuring to see political leaders standing with the people,” Abdullah said.

The Jammu and Kashmir government, currently led by Omar Abdullah in alliance with the Congress, has announced an ex gratia relief of Rs 10 lakh for the families of those who lost their lives in the shelling.
