Kishtwar: Tragedy struck Jammu & Kashmir’s Kishtwar district on Thursday as a massive cloudburst hit Chishoti village on the Machail Mata Yatra route in Padder, leaving at least 10 people feared dead. The sudden deluge, which occurred during the annual pilgrimage, caught locals and devotees off guard.
Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh, alerted by local leaders, said he has been in constant touch with Kishtwar’s Deputy Commissioner and confirmed that rescue teams have been rushed to the spot. “Damage evaluation, rescue and medical management are underway. All possible assistance will be provided,” he assured on X.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed deep grief over the incident, offering condolences to the bereaved families and wishing a swift recovery to the injured. He has directed civil administration, police, army, NDRF, and SDRF teams to intensify rescue and relief efforts in the affected area.
The tragedy has cast a shadow over the sacred Machail Mata Yatra, with authorities on high alert to prevent further loss of life.
