Shimla, May 9 — In response to escalating tensions, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has placed border areas near Punjab’s Pathankot—particularly Nurpur and Indora—on high alert. Police have been instructed to initiate blackout protocols during air raid sirens to ensure public safety.
“There is no need to panic, but we must remain vigilant and act responsibly,” CM Sukhu stated after a high-level security review meeting. He urged the public to trust only official sources and avoid spreading misinformation.
To support citizens during any emergency, the offices of the Chief Secretary, General Administration, and district control rooms will remain operational around the clock. Special attention is being given to the safe return of 103 Himachali students studying in Jammu and Kashmir.
Security has been tightened across border districts, and several HRTC bus routes to Katra, Pathankot, Amritsar, and Jalandhar have been suspended until further notice.
This comes after the Indian Armed Forces foiled Pakistan’s drone attacks on 15 Indian cities and struck terror launchpads in PoK under Operation Sindoor in retaliation to the April 22 Pahalgam terror strike. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh affirmed, “India’s sovereignty is non-negotiable, and no boundary will limit our response.” (PTI)
