New Delhi: The civil defence exercise scheduled to be held on May 29 in the states bordering Pakistan, including the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, has been postponed.
Initially planned under “Operation Shield,” the government had decided to conduct the civil defence exercise on Thursday in Gujarat, Punjab, Haryana, and Jammu and Kashmir. Authorities added that a new date for the exercise will be announced later.
This postponement follows the nationwide civil defence exercise conducted on May 7, hours before “Operation Sindoor.” During that operation, the Ministry of Home Affairs directed 244 districts across India to carry out drills that included blackout simulations, air raid sirens, evacuation procedures, and public awareness sessions designed to prepare civilians for wartime-like emergencies.
Following the May 7 drill, the Directorate under the Ministry of Home Affairs identified several critical gaps in civil defence preparedness in vulnerable areas. Instructions to address these issues were issued on May 9, according to PTI.
