DNPA Code of Ethics

At Jammu Observer, we adhere to a strict Code of Ethics designed to ensure that our digital news publishing operations maintain the highest standards of professionalism, independence, and responsibility. Our commitment to responsible journalism extends to protecting constitutional freedoms, especially the right to free speech under Article 19(1)(a) of the Constitution of India. We continuously review developments that could restrict the freedom to gather and disseminate news, ensuring that our editorial independence remains intact.

The Code of Ethics for Jammu Observer aligns with the laws of the land, including the Constitution of India, the over 30 media-related laws, the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), and the Information Technology Act, 2000. We also comply with applicable norms of journalistic ethics and maintain the highest standards of professional conduct. This Code serves as a guideline for our editorial and content teams, ensuring they follow ethical standards while maintaining full editorial independence.

Accuracy, Transparency, and Fairness

We at Jammu Observer are committed to providing accurate, fair, and transparent news coverage. We avoid publishing inaccurate, baseless, or distorted material and make pre-publication verification a mandatory process. Defamation is to be strictly avoided. Any news article containing errors should be updated or corrected promptly. If a news report contains false or inaccurate information, it will be corrected or taken down upon request from the concerned party, provided the required documents or evidence are submitted.

Right of Reply

We believe in maintaining fairness by incorporating the comments or versions of individuals or parties mentioned in our news reports, especially in cases where allegations are involved. If we fail to include their side initially, we will incorporate their response if received later. Furthermore, in the case of developing news, we will update and carry relevant updates, clearly stating the date of such updates.

Intellectual Property Rights

We respect intellectual property rights and acknowledge the ownership of all copyrighted material, including text, images, diagrams, and other media. Prior permission is obtained before using copyrighted content, and we pay any required fees or royalties. We also ensure that third-party trademarks and service marks are used only with permission, or if deemed fair use. If we receive complaints about infringement of intellectual property, we take immediate action to either edit, delete, or take down the content in question.

Reporting on Sensitive Matters

We take extra care when reporting on sensitive topics, such as crime, sexual harassment, child abuse, rape, and other sensitive matters. The presumption of innocence is paramount, and we avoid speculation about evidence, witnesses, or the conduct of the accused or victims. Special care is also taken when reporting on minors involved in sensitive issues, including issues like adoption, divorce, and custody cases.

We ensure compliance with Sections 67, 67A, and 67B of the Information Technology Act, 2000, which address the penalties for publishing obscene or sexually explicit material and material involving children in sexual acts.

Grievance Redressal Mechanism

In accordance with the Information Technology Act, 2000, Jammu Observer follows a grievance redressal mechanism. A grievance officer is appointed and their contact details are prominently displayed on the website. Complaints are addressed within 36 hours of receipt, and resolutions are provided within one month. We are committed to resolving any grievances promptly and transparently.
