A new study conducted by Professor Viswanath Pingali from the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad reveals that Apple’s App Store ecosystem in India facilitated ₹44,447 crore ($5.31 billion) in developer billings and sales in 2024. Remarkably, over 94% of this commerce accrued solely to developers and businesses, without any commission paid to Apple.
The study highlights the App Store’s significant role in India’s digital economy, with global earnings of India-based developers tripling over the past five years. This growth underscores the expanding reach and influence of India’s app development industry on the global stage.
